Retirement gifts for science teachers that won't end up in a drawer

Why so many science teachers retire with one of our boards

We can't take credit for this one. A few of our customers told us they'd chosen our science boards as retirement gifts, and that they went down really well. It made sense once we thought about it.

A chopping board gets used most days. So every time dinner goes on, there's a small reminder of the school or university they gave all those years to.

Shopping for a teacher who isn't retiring? Our end of year gift for a science teacher guide is written for that.

For a chemistry teacher: the periodic table board

This is the board that's popular with chemistry teachers. The full periodic table is engraved across solid bamboo, with a line underneath.

There are four standard lines to pick from: "We're All Chemists In The Kitchen", "I Enjoy Cooking Periodically", "[Name] Enjoys Cooking... Periodically" and "I Am In My Element When I Cook". Or write your own.

For a lecturer or professor leaving the university

University leaving dos are often bigger, with a whole faculty chipping in. Their title, school and years of service make a fitting line: "Professor Hughes, School of Chemistry, 1998 to 2026".

We check every order before engraving, so nobody finds a misspelt name on the day.

For physics and biology teachers as well

The periodic table hangs on the wall of every school lab, so the board suits the whole science department. Swap the standard line for one that fits their subject. "Retired, but still full of energy" works for a physicist.

Leaving a lab instead of a classroom?

Lab technicians and research scientists retire too. The same board works with a line from the team, like "From everyone in the QC lab, 2008 to 2026". Our gifts for scientists guide has more ideas for the lab.

Wording ideas for the engraving

Short lines engrave bigger and are easier to read. A few to borrow:

• "Thank you from all of us in Science"
• "Dr Patel, Head of Chemistry, 2004 to 2026"
• "Retired, and finally in my element"
• "Now cooking without a fume cupboard"

Got something longer in mind? Send it anyway. We'll get in touch if it needs trimming to fit.

Add a spoon and take 15% off both

Retirement usually means more time to cook. Pair the board with our "Keep Calm & Let Me Cook" spoon and 15% comes off the pair at checkout.

Each piece is engraved separately. Put their name on the spoon and the leaving message on the board.

Order a week or two before the leaving do

Jason and Kate engrave every board to order in our Hampshire workshop and post it within 2 to 3 working days. If there's a fixed date, allow 7 to 10 days for UK delivery. A blank 'With Love' gift tag comes with every board, so there's room for a few signatures.
