“Thank you! I know he is going to love this, ( he is a professional chef!)”
The gift for someone who loves cooking and already has everything
They've got the stand mixer and the good knives. They haven't got a chopping board with their name engraved on it.
Keen cooks buy their own kit
That's the problem with buying for them. Anything useful, they've already researched and bought. Anything gadgety ends up in the drawer with the avocado slicer.
The one thing they won't buy themselves is a board with their own name on it.
"I Am In My Element When I Cook"
Our Periodic Table board has a line engraved under the table, and for a keen cook that one lands well. Or put their name in "[Name] Enjoys Cooking... Periodically" and it becomes theirs alone.
A board that earns its spot on the worktop
It's solid bamboo, 40 by 24cm and 1.8cm thick, which is a proper working size. The back is plain, with a juice groove round the edge for carving, so chopping never touches the engraving.
Bamboo, and the honest trade-off
Bamboo is harder than most hardwoods, so it resists knife marks and stains. It also regrows in a few years, where hardwood takes decades.
The trade-off is that a harder board is a touch tougher on knife edges. A keen cook hones their knives anyway, so they won't notice.
Add the spoon they'll actually use
The "Keep Calm & Let Me Cook" spoon is for anyone who guards the hob. Add it and both pieces are 15% off, each with its own free engraving.
Bought for professional chefs too
One customer bought this board for a professional chef, and told us he was going to love it. We've been making boards since 2015, with 1,249 Etsy sales so far. Every one is made to order in our Hampshire workshop and posted within 2 to 3 working days.

Why ours, not a printed one
Plenty of shops sell "personalised" boards. Here's where ours differ.
| Chompboards | Typical personalised gift | |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 40 x 24cm, 1.8cm thick | Often a small serving board |
| Material | Solid bamboo, food safe | Often thin, or plastic-coated |
| Chopping side | Plain back with a juice groove | Often engraved on the only flat side |
| Personalisation | Free, their name or your own line | Often a paid extra |

Questions we get asked
Which side do I chop on?
The plain side. The engraving is on the front, so chop on the back and turn it over to serve or display. That keeps the design sharp for years.
Will a bamboo board blunt my knives?
Bamboo is harder than most hardwoods, which is why it resists knife marks and stains. That hardness makes it a little tougher on edges than a soft hardwood board. Hone your knife every so often and you won't notice the difference.
How do I clean it? Is it dishwasher safe?
Hand wash with warm soapy water and dry it upright. Never put a bamboo board in the dishwasher; the heat and soaking make the wood swell and split. Wipe spills off the engraved side rather than scrubbing it.
Bamboo or wooden chopping board: which is better?
Bamboo is harder than most hardwoods, so it resists knife marks and stains, and it regrows in a few years. Hardwood boards are heavier and kinder to knife edges but cost more and need more care. We use bamboo because it takes laser engraving cleanly and stands up to daily use.
How does the board + spoon offer work?
Pick your board and a spoon on this page and add them as a set. 15% comes off both, and the code is applied for you at checkout. Each piece gets its own engraving, so you can put names on the board and a date on the spoon (or the other way round).
